# Barc > Barc is a free, open-source Arc browser alternative for macOS. Native WebKit, zero telemetry, no built-in AI, sleeping profiles and direct Arc import. Barc is a personal, open-source web browser for macOS made by one developer who missed Arc and didn't want to learn a new browser. It recreates Arc's sidebar-first workflow on Apple's WebKit engine. Current version: 0.0.6 (released 28 October 2026). Requirements: macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. ## Key facts - Rendering engine: WebKit, the engine built into macOS (no bundled Chromium). - Native macOS app written in Swift 6; app bundle about 9.6 MB (local build). - Telemetry: none. No usage analytics, no crash-report uploads, no update pings. - No built-in AI assistant. - Pages in inactive profiles hibernate after 1 minute (configurable: never, 1, 5 or 10 minutes). - Background tabs above 2 GB of memory (default limit) sleep heaviest-first. - Turning off generic element hiding saves about 18–19 MB per web process. - Website passwords are stored in a local AES-256-GCM vault protected by one macOS Keychain item; no cloud sync. - Imports from Arc: Spaces, nested folders, favourites, archives, history, bookmarks, passwords, cookies, local storage, addresses and search shortcuts. - Imports passwords from Apple Passwords via CSV export. - Known gaps in 0.0.6: passkeys not yet supported; builds are ad-hoc signed and not notarized; no automatic updates. - Open source under Apache-2.0; a fork of Kylmora with full history and attribution. ## Links - [Website](https://barc.cc/): overview, stats and FAQ - [Full LLM reference](https://barc.cc/llms-full.txt): every fact and FAQ answer in plain text - [Download 0.0.6](https://github.com/mcgri/Barc/releases/tag/v0.0.6): .dmg and .pkg installers for macOS - [Source code](https://github.com/mcgri/Barc): Swift, Apache-2.0 - [Issues](https://github.com/mcgri/Barc/issues): bug reports and feature requests ## Optional - [Kylmora](https://github.com/kylmora/kylmora): the open-source WebKit browser Barc is forked from
